Secure Flight Update

DATE: May 8, 2009
ATTN: Travel Manager/Arranger/Travelers

As communicated in a previous Travel Alert, the TSA's Secure Flight Program requires that airlines gather additional traveler information to determine if the passenger is a match for the "NO Fly" or "Selectee" lists.  The implementation of the Secure Flight Program will occur in phases.

The important dates for the transition of this program are May 15, August 15, and October 31, 2009.  Travel One has an automated process in place to ensure our agents gather this data, regardless of how the reservation comes into Travel One (agent-assisted or managed online booking tool).

  • May 15, 2009, the name on the traveler's reservation should EXACTLY match the name on the ID the traveler plans to use at the airport.  Initially, TSA has built some flexibility into the system.  The TSA has stated that "small differences between the passenger's ID and the passenger's reservation information, such as the use of a middle initial instead of a full middle name or no middle name/initial at all, or prefixes and suffixes, should not cause a problem for the passenger..." when passing through airport security.

  • August 15, 2009, for domestic travel, passengers will be required to have in the reservation their EXACT full name (as used on the ID to be presented at the airport), and additionally their date of birth and gender must be included in the reservation.

  • October 31, 2009, for international travel, passengers will be required to have in the reservation their EXACT full name (as used on the ID to be presented at the airport), and additionally their date of birth and gender must be included in the reservation.

PLEASE NOTE:  If the traveler's name on his/her state ID does not match the name found on his/her passport, Travel One encourages them to align the two so that they do match.  This would require the traveler to obtain a new passport or state ID.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE:  The name on the traveler's airline loyalty memberships (i.e., SkyMiles, WorldPerks, Mileage Plus, AAdvantage Miles, etc.) must also match EXACTLY to the name on the traveler's ID.  This would require the traveler to contact each of the airlines and update the name information.

Travel One will continue to keep our clients informed of news and information that may affect their corporate travel program. Please contact your Travel One reservationist at 952-854-2555 or 1-800-245-1111 for the most current travel information.
