American Airlines Fee/Policy Updates

DATE: May 29, 2008
ATTN: Travel Manager/Arranger/Travelers

Over the past week, American Airlines has modified several of their policies.  Below is a recap:

  1. Fare rules have changed to allow a non-refundable ticket to be applied to the purchase of a refundable fare ticket.  Once the value of a non-refundable ticket has been applied to the purchase of a refundable ticket, only the original non-refundable amount remains non-refundable.
  2. First bag fee of $15 (each way) will be effective for tickets purchased on or after June 15, 2008.  The second bag will cost $25 (each way); 3rd, 4th and 5th checked bags cost $100 per piece (each way); and the 6th and any additional bags costs $200 (each way).  Depending on the weight of bags, there may be additional charges.  Passengers will be given a receipt for their checked bags (for expense purposes) at the Kiosks, the counter and at curbside.
  3. Several exemptions to the above checked bag fee apply, please contact Travel One for details.
  4. Domestic change fees increased from $100 to as much as $150, depending on the market.  Change fees will be collected based upon the fare component that is being changed - the most restrictive component will apply.
  5. International change fees increased to $150 - $300 (depending on the market and fare).
