Delta Air Lines announced it will amend its checked baggage fee for first and second checked bags - for tickets purchased on or after January 5, 2010 for travel on or after January 12, 2010 - on Delta / Northwest and Delta Connection operated flights.

When travelers check their baggage curbside, at a kiosk, or with an agent at the airport, the fee for the domestic first bag will increase from $20 to $25; the fee for the second bag will increase from $30 to $35.

For travelers who "pre-pay" their first and second bag fees online at the airline's website, the fees are $23 (up from $15) for the first bag; and $32 (up from $25) for the second bag.

These above fees apply to domestic travel which includes the 50 U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.

The current exemptions for the first and second domestic checked bag fee remains unchanged and include:

• First Class / Premium Cabin customers
• SkyMiles Elite and WorldPerks Elite members
• U.S. Military personal traveling on orders
• Customers booked on full Coach fare tickts
