Delta Air Lines Waives Fee For Canadian Carry-On Baggage

DATE: January 8, 2010
ATTN: Travel Manager/Arranger/Travelers

Until further notice, the Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority (CATSA) has implemented a directive of zero carry-on bags for customers originating in Canada and traveling to the United States.  Passengers will still be allowed one personal item, such as a purse or briefcase, to carry onboard the aircraft.

As a result of the CATSA directive, effective immediately, Delta Air Lines will waive the fee for passengers required to check their one carry-on bag.  This exception policy applies to customers traveling on Delta / Northwest and Delta Connection-operated flights from Canada to the United States.

Note: The waiver applies only to bags that were originally intended for carry-on.  A second or third bag, or any bags that are too large to carry on, are not exempt from the fee.  Collection of the first and second bag fees (or however many the traveler is checking beyond the one carry-on bag) will be made according to current policy (outlined above).

Carry-on bags are defined as “items to which a passenger has access to during a flight, but does not include personal items such as medication or medical devices, small purses, cameras, coats, items for care of infants, laptop computers, crutches, canes, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining items, a special needs item, musical instruments, or diplomatic or consular bags.”
